Unknown Staff - Lava Beds National Monument



Taking a hike through Captain Jack's Stronghold, we came across this decorated staff, which stood out in incredible sharp contrast with the surrounding desert sage and juniper. It was among these rocks that 53 warriors held off over 1,000 army troops for five months. A stroll through the natural fortress makes you immediately realize that the Native Americans were brilliant in their tactics, taking advantage of everything, including natural tanks to provide them with a water supply.
